The Tower of Babel

Now the whole world had one language and a commen speech. As men moved eastward, they found a plan in Shinar and settle there 现在，天下的语言都是一种。当人向东移动在士拿地遇到了一片肥沃的平原，就住了下来。

They said to each other, 'Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly.' They used brick instead of stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, ' Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.'他们商量说，“来吧，我们要做砖，把砖烧透了。“ 他们用砖当石头，又拿石漆当灰泥。他们又说：“来吧，我们要建造一座城和一座塔，塔的顶部要通往天边，让它传扬我们的名字，我们也不再分散地球各地。”

But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. The Lord said, ' If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, and let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.'但是上帝过来看了这个城市和塔，他说;'如果一个民族说同样的语言，以后做什么事情都能成功。来吧，让我们下去混乱他们的语言，这样他们就不能彼此理解了。”

So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel-- because there the Lord confused the language of the whole word.
